On 11th March 2011, at the 2011 East Penny Arcade Expo, the game was demonstrated publicly for the first time.

Kingdoms of Amalur Reckoning have been directed by Mark Nelson, designed by Ken Rolston and Ian S. Frazier. It has been composed by Mark Cromer and Grant Kirkhope and runs on Big Huge Engine along with Havok Physics. There are five distinct regions in the gameplay, three class trees, with each of them having 22 abilities and four playable races that are the Dokkalfar, the Almain, the Varani and the Ljosalfar. It has received positive reviews from the critics and its gorgeous environments, engrossing story and customizable gameplay.
